Any Techie Wanna Help Me Out?
'eyo. I'm big into electronics as some of you know, and I'm also a neat freak. To keep a long story short, I want to reinstal windows on my new rig, but because I built this sucker, I don't have one of those handy set of restore CDs like you get with older prebuilt machines. I have one of those SP2 upgrade packages.. Anyways, I wanted to know if it would be possible to unistall and reinstall my system with one of those without having to go down to Comp USA and getting charged out the butt.

Well, if you built your machine it seems to me like you would have had to install Windows on the hard drive yourself, no? If so, youshould still have the disk. If, however, you have no disk, then you're outta luck. You can either go somewhere and let them do a professional job, or you can buy a Win XP CD, or you can illegally download a CD... but I don't recommend the last one... you have to be REALLY careful with your machine afterwards if you do that... If you DO have a license you could also ask around and see if any of your pals has a disk, I suppose. I think that's legal...

If you legally own a copy of it, and have lost it or whatever then you can go ahead and download it. Maybe go to your local library and see if they have a copy of Windows XP, burn the disk, and use your registration key. (Or just crack it, if you legally own it I don't really see anything wrong with it.) After you install the bare bones XP service pack 2 will be an automatic update.

I have the disk and all, it's just that Windows requires you regester your keys online for windows XP, and I already regestered these.. It wont let you regester twice and the sucker will only give you 60 days to "Activate" your regestry.

It should allow you to register more than twice on the same machine, if it won't, just find a cracked version.
